Modelling

I have used a few different methods of modelling my designs to see which would be possible for me to produce.

Play dough modeling:

Modelling the repeat button I can see how simple a design it is. Having the detail raised from the base of the USB adds some detail. I'm not really impressed by the outcome because it isn't as aesthetically pleasing as I would want.

The model below shows the basic outline shape I would want if I produced this headphone idea. I found it hard to get the spherical shape I would want the finished USB to have, through using the play dough. Maybe if i produce this on Creo I would be able to get the shape I want.

I started the iPod simply by getting the sort of semi-circular shape I wanted, which would obviously create a circular/ellipse shape when full. Using basic shapes to represent the screen and wheel I have modelled how I would want it to look. To develop it further I extruded the shapes into the model. This is definitely a better effect.

Model Development

Using play dough gave me a better idea which designs I might want to create. I'm going to develop the headphone on Creo as I think it would be an interesting finished product/

Creo Development

Going on to try and model this is Creo was difficult. I tried different techniques, such as variable section sweep, revolving around a 2D outline and extruding, to try and create the shape I wanted. I found it really difficult to get it how I wanted it to look and I wasn't happy with the shapes I was producing.
The size of the design was what was making the shape difficult to get. To have it looking how I had drawn it meant it was going to be too big to be a practical and cost effective USB, which is why I moved on to the next design to develop.

The iPod was a lot simpler to produce in Creo. The shape is a lot more basic but would allow me to get a better finish on it. This is the design I will be taking forward to manufacturing. It is a clear advertisement for Apple and iTunes, so will serve its purpose of promoting the new streaming site.
